Today seemed like it dragged on. The kids for some reason, seemed intent on making sure that I didn't have a remotely clean house. What's worse, I had to start the day out shopping - again. Even though we weren't out that long, I was still somewhat tired when I got home. Even at lunchtime, I couldn't sit down.
My sister took the kids outside for me, but every 3 minutes, one of them would get hurt, in particularly the youngest. So actually getting around to do any cleaning at all, was difficult. Then everytime I brought the one who was hurt inside, the dirt that seemed to have jumped onto her would jump off. So instead of concentrating on any real cleaning, I would end up vacuuming the mess. I would finish vacuuming the mess just in time for someone else to get hurt.
Then when they were done, they "forgot" to take their shoes off and drug the dirt all thoughout the house.
I did end up cleaning up the livingroom, the bathroom, and the kitchen later. Well, the kitchen is the best it's going to get with all the tools laying around and the big hole in the wall where the range hood is supposed to go. Apparently, the one that my husband surprised me with didn't fit. It figures, that's our luck. Now he's going to stop at the home improvement store to return the one we got and get a replacement that will require less sawing and patching than this one.
At least he got the new faucet in. I'm glad he doesn't curse. Our kids would have an interesting vocabulary by now. I guess the faucet and the water filter spout was made for the more roomier, modern sinks. Ours predates hand pumps. So, after much groaning and saying how if he cursed, that would be the only words coming out of his mouth.
It's a decent faucet, but it took some getting used to. The old faucet had the sprayer on the side, this one has the sprayer built into the faucet itself. A few times I reached to the side for the sprayer.
The other thing that I have to get used to is that the old faucet was very close to the sink. This one is pretty high. While this is wonderful in terms of getting my large pots clean and filling the watering container to water my plants, a few times I have sprayed myself with water because I held a dish at an angle and too high.
The water filter is the best part. The spigot is also quite high. It's nice to be able to fill my water bottles to the top because I don't have to hold it at an angle. It's also faster than the PuR filter. My husband got a rebate on the replacement filters, so now we have a year's worth of filtered water for the price of just the unit.
I wish I can say that is the end of our kitchen expenditures but today my husband tried to help me with putting dishes away and ended up yanking the top dish rack off the tracks. I knew of this problem for a while but hadn't complained about it since that as long as I was careful in pulling it out, the dishwasher worked well enough. Although now I noticed that I have to rinse the dishes more thoroughly for them to become clean.
*Sigh*. I'm sure we will just get the "cheap" dishwasher, but that's at least another $180. The only reason why we would buy one is because it will be part of the house when it's sold. Although I may resort to handwashing the dishes again. It's not like I haven't done it that way before. I grew up that way. It's just that it's so tedious.
I certainly feel better now. Not just because I rambled on about my day, but because I was off my feet the whole time.
