Mike has been busy. Today and tomorrow, he'll be working on an electrical job. Yesterday, he was hired by a neighbor to clean out a house that was foreclosed on.
The thing is about these foreclosed houses, people will leave them full of stuff. It's either they're in denial, they just don't have the heart to take it all with them, or they just have no place to put them. Usually the houses are trashed but there are a lot of stuff that the bank doesn't want. By law, if everything in the house has more than a $500 then the bank has to try everything to get the owners to take them. For some reason, however, the owners don't bother.
Usually, everything ends up in the dumpster. The bank doesn't want them, trying to get them to a charity takes too long. Houses have to be cleaned that day, including all stuff needs to be off the property, and charities usually can't be there on a moment's notice. So it ends up going to the employees.
So not only did my husband made some extra cash to help pay off debt, we also acquired some good books for homeschooling, and an adult bike. I guess there was more stuff, but we are trying to eliminate, not get more stuff. Needless to say, most of the perfectly good items ended up in the trash.
Moral of the story: If you are having some financial trouble, consider using craigslist.org to sell your stuff. Not only it might help you out, but at least it won't end up in a landfill.
