Well, not anymore. I hadn't been on my own website this morning. I usually check on a daily basis to see if there are any problems with it, but for some strange reason I didn't check.
Of course, today was the day that there was a problem. It was one that was easily fixed, but still a serious problem. The code in the index page just didn't exist. In other words, when you loaded the site, it was blank.
I know what happened as soon as I saw it, and if I signed on this morning, I would have known then and had it fixed. I have no idea on how long it was like this either.
Anyway, the server owner (I rent my server space) had changed operating systems - which isn't bad - but as a result, I can't use the Dreamweaver FTP client. For those of you who are only computer literate enough to be reading this, and FTP client is just a program that uploads files to the server. Most web designers use one.
So yesterday, I tried to upload the updated index file via the built in uploader. Serves me right for being too impatient. I thought I would upload it immediately this way instead of downloading and installing another FTP client (in this case, FileZilla) I did it the "quickest" way.
Well, when I uploaded it, instead of overwriting the original, it uploaded as "index(2).html". I figured that there's something I supposed to check first to force it to overwrite, but did I have the patience for it? Noooooo, I had to do it the "quickest" way, which was to delete the "index.html" file and then rename the "index(2).html" to "index.html".
I didn't consider that the server might not like that and put an "index.html" file of it's own. One that was blank.
I just love computers, don't you?
