I tried to display the demo right here in a blog post, but couldn't. So I stuck it in my left margin. Look to your left of your screen, where the collage of pictures are, scroll down and you will see info of your system, among other things.
No, there's no IP address, because that would require SSI, which would require this page to be suffixed with ".shtml". I can't do that in blogger.
There is a way to get someone using Netscape to display the IP address, (not Mozilla or IE) but who uses Netscape anymore?.
Anyway, for those who are "dying" to know how I did it, just take a look here.
If you are looking to learn any HTML you can check out the site itself. I love the "try it" feature it has. You can experiment without using ftp to test anything. No uploading necessary.
That said, another good place to start is HTMLgoodies. This is where I taught myself. No, don't say you are too "computer illiterate" to learn HTML. If you are reading this blog, you know enough to start, but that's an argument for another time.
Why have I brought this up? This is handy info for those who are looking for knowing how to block a user from a page of your site, in particular those who leave garbage on your website or someone who's spamming your contact page to oblivion.
Better yet, you can redirect them. There's another old trick that I don't remember how to do - and I bet it only works in Netscape these days, but it will display the entire contents of a specified directory. No, it doesn't broadcast this info to anyone. It's like a mirror, but a lot of people thought that they were hacked when they visited the page. One of these days, I'll check in on how to do it again and if it works with the latest browser.
