My trip to the Dentist...

I never look foward going to the dentist, but I don't think it's for the same reason a lot of people have for dreading the dentist: I cannot stand the sound of metal against teeth. Of course anyone can drag their fingernails across a blackboard and that wouldn't faze me a bit (I bet a lot of you are cringing now, aren't you?).

I became less apprehensive when the new electric drills appeared in my dentist office. It's not that they aren't metal. In a matter of fact, they are almost like a drill that is cooled by water. The hygenist would put this vacuum tube in my mouth, designed to suck the water that would otherwise fill my mouth.

Of course, this is done all mostly on my back allowing whatever I would have blown out with a tissue to seep to the back of my throat. Being pregnant makes it worse.

I don't think that little vacuum tube works very well. I guess that's why the metal drills don't bother me much since I'm being distracted by being partially drowned by the rinse water.

The dental hygenist happens to be very nice. We talk a lot before she starts to clean my teeth, and then she attacks that plaque with a vengence. While her way is quite efficient and we are done in a short time, it's somewhat uncomfortable to watch the immense concentration (an understatement) on her face while she comes precariously close to my tongue with a very sharp object.

All-in-all, the appointment wasn't that bad. I was told to "keep up the good work" and sent home with a clean bill of healthy teeth. I can't type "keep up the good work" with a straight face. I have been brushing my teeth maybe four times a week.

Not intentionally. I haven't been able to get up early enough before the kids wake up. when they are up, I don't have time to brush my teeth, so I eat an apple. Appearently, that seems to be working pretty well.

Not that I recommend brushing your teeth only four times a week...
