I was told to take it easy by the midwife. So I gave the kids a choice. Fireworks or parade. IF I don't have to work so hard, we might make it to both because it's really not *that* far.
Well, I ended up working too hard. My mother thought it would be a great idea to have a cookout today and they would buy the food.
Couldn't say "no" to free food, but the house needed to be at least functional. So I told the kids that they had to help out to increase their chances of seeing the parade. If I got done in time and I wasn't exhausted, then we would go to both.
They didn't. Michala kept stopping to play with a toy or read. Nathan kept disappearing to play outside or ride his bike. I didn't yell, although I did remind them a few times that they are ruining it for themselves. Sarah did help by blowing bubbles to keep Stephanie busy.
Sure enough, not only was I not finished when my parents showed up, but I was exhausted. Fortunately, I didn't have any serious contractions and I do feel okay otherwise.
Given the walk I would have to endure and the stress of dealing with annoying people, perhaps it was best.
You know what I mean by "annoying people". The ones that are so busy on their cell phones or in their own world that they push between me and my kids or they stop suddenly in front of my 2 seat stroller. Have you actually tried to stop those things? It's like stopping a semi. Fortunately, in the past, I have strong enough legs that I hadn't run anyone over. Being pregnant this year, however, will mean I would have more weight to stop. :D
Then there are those who seem to think that you are just there in the hot sun for the fun of it. I don't know how many times I had my kids right on the edge of the street and for some strange reason, a group of adults decide to just stand in front of you. Now, personally, I've seen many parades and quite frankly, I think that once you've seen one, you've seen them all. But to the kids, this is like a onetime event - even though they have gone once a year since they were just months old.
But adults blocking kids? C'mon, haven't you seen a parade before?
*sigh*
I'll be taking just the single three-wheeler stroller to the fireworks. It's much lighter, and it will go over grass much easier.
I'm looking for a new double stroller on Ebay.
